We want the Åland Maritime Museum and Pommern to be museums for everyone and we are constantly working to improve our accessibility. If you have any questions or suggestions, you are welcome to contact us.
Accessibility and aids
The Åland Maritime Museum is an accessible museum. Lifts and ramps makes it possible for pram drivers and visitors with functional variations to move around the museum with ease. The auditorium and the reception are equipped with audio loops. We strive to make our texts easy to read and understand and to keep as many of our exhibited objects displayed out in the open so those who need to “see” the objects with their hands can do so.
Free entry to the museum and the ship for personal assistants to disabled visitors.
Accessibility on Pommern
Pommern is an accessible ship. To visit Pommern, visitors cross the bridge from the museum’s terrace. To come onboard there is a staircase and a lift, making it easier for wheelchairs and strollers.
Pommern has three decks accessible via stairs or a lift. The exhibition Pommern – 100 days under sail is an experience encompassing all three decks.
On the weather deck visitors can listen to a self-guided audio track for both children and adults. The audio-guide, included in the entry fee, can be controlled by hand if needed, and includes text as well as audio.
The toilets are in the Åland Maritime Museum, where you buy your tickets. There are no toilets onboard Pommern.
