BEFORE YOUR VISIT

Directions

The Åland Maritime Museum is located on Hamngatan 2 in Mariehamn’s Western Harbour, only 500 metres from the ferry terminal and 1 km from the town centre.

Parking

There is a car park outside the Maritime Museum on Hamngatan 2 (2 hours) and by Esplanaden (4 hours), just south of the museum. Remember your parking timer if you park here. There is unlimited parking along Norragatan.

Accessibility

The Åland Maritime Museum is an accessible museum. Lifts and ramps makes it possible for pram drivers and visitors with functional variations to move around the museum with ease. The auditorium and the reception are equipped with audio loops. We strive to make our texts easy to read and understand and to keep as many of our  exhibited objects displayed out in the open so those who need to “see” the objects with their hands can do so. Free entry to the museum and the ship for personal assistants to disabled visitors.

Food and drink

The museums reception offers simple fare, such as coffee, juice, ice cream and chocolate. If you want something more substantial there are several good restaurants nearby. Restaurang Nautical and Adlon pizzeria is open all year while ÅSS Paviljongen and Pub Albin are  summer restaurants.

GROUPS

We welcome all kinds of groups to the Åland Maritime Museum. Are you ten or more persons in your group you get a discount on your entry fee when one person pays for the whole group. To ensure we can accommodate you properly, we suggest you get in touch with us prior to your visit if you are a larger group.

SHOP

The museum shop is always open when the museum is open. It’s located in the entry hall so you don’t need to a ticket to shop with us!

The selection in the museum shop is inspired by our exhibitions and by all things maritime. We have a wide selection of local seafaring literature but also children’s books with maritime themes.

We have Åland souvenirs, handicraft by local talents and unique Pommern products. Pop around to the museum shop next time you are looking for that special gift.

The museum shop offers also coffee, tea, soft drinks and snacks such as ice cream and chocolate.

Puzzle from the Museum Shop with a black and white photograph of a sailing ship Ponape.
On a background of dark wood, two brass hooks are visible. To the right and just below the center of the picture is a hook representing an anchor, with the hook at the bottom, and a rope running diagonally across the anchor from its ring at the top. To the right and a little higher up in the picture is a brass hook representing a rudder, with a longer hook at the bottom.
